I just passed the elance test, thanks to your help. Here are two questions I missed:

Topic : Getting Paid
1. Goal – Getting Paid

How do I get Guaranteed Payment for work I perform? Find the correct answer
a. Use Tracker with Work View turned on to record all time worked for clients on hourly jobs
b. Use Escrow to ensure funds are available before starting the work and submit weekly Status Reports to document work progress
c. a only
d. b only
e. Both a and b
My Answer: d; only Escrow is stated to GUARANTEE payment; tracker FACILITATES payment.
Correct Answer: e; Although the Getting Paid section of Getting Started with Elance does not clearly state that tracker guarantees payment, this question requires that answer.

2. Goal – Learn about disintermediation policy

How long must I keep a client identified on Elance on the platform (only accept payments from the client via Elance)? Find the correct answer
a. 6 months
b. 1 year
c. 2 years
d. 3 years
e. 4 years
My answer: a (a guess!) Can anyone out there find any reference to "distintermediation" in the Getting Started with Elance web pages? They do not want clients and providers to work outside of Elance since this reduces their revenue, but they are not clear as to how long these two are forbidden from doing so. I suspect it is buried somewhere in their terms to which we agreed. I also suspect they would have a difficult time prevailing in a legal challenge to such an outside agreement.

a. 6 months
b. 1 year
c. 2 years
d. 3 years
e. 4 years

I can confirm, that there is no straight answer to this on their site.
But on first try a) and it was among failed. Second time I selected b) and it was not o a list of wrong - so answer is 1 year.

Anonymous said...

There is a sentence in elance billing-and-payment-service.pdf:
As a Client, you agree to use the Payment Service to make all payments to a Contractor, for a period of one
year after you identify the Contractor through the Site

So I guess b) is ok

Anonymous said...

I answered B, and I failed that question. Will update if I ever get it right.

Anonymous said...

I took answered "1 year" to the disintermediation question just now, and got it wrong.

Anonymous said...

Regarding disintermediation (hope I spelt that right) a.k.a how long you have to stay on elance platform for a given client-provider payment relationship. Some of you used 1 year and that answer no longer works. Here is the reason - The time got doubled to 2 years in 20011. See http://72tips.com/2011/trapped-elance-doubles-the-exclusivity-period/
